What more is there to say? Can the boys from Pretoria handle the North West sun? What better answer than racing to a six-wicket victory against NMMU at the Ibbies Oval in Potch on Thursday afternoon?
NMMU would have had revenge on their minds after their ‘who-saw-that-coming?’ defeat to UWC on Wednesday. Vincent Moore and Ruben Claassen made sure they couldn’t serve their dish cold. The wily Claassen and ruthless Moore restricted the run-rate and feasted on some early wickets, particularly Moore, who saw off both openers for a single run each.
Mathew Christensen was defiance personified and his knock of 53 off 48 deliveries was the cornerstone of the Madibaz innings that ended on 132/5. Tuks did what Tuks does best: they dominated. An opening stand of 56, thanks mainly to Murray Coetzee, got proceedings off to a promising start. Wickets kept falling, but each batsman made a telling contribution.
A six by Evan Jones in the Power Plus over, was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Tuks back on track in their quest to retain the Varsity Cricket title.
