Zimbabwe Held By Guinea

Zimbabwe came from behind to draw 1-1 with Guinea in an Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifier played at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday.  The Zimbabweans had a horrible start as they conceded in the first minute of the game.  Danny Phiri’s back pass collided with Washington Arubi’s knees and rebounded to Idrissa Sylla who was not going to miss the golden opportunity to score.

The hosts were shocked by the goal but Nyasha Mushekwi came close to equalising when he was given a beautiful cross by Khama Billat, but Mushekwi missed with his diving header.  In the 34th minute Knowledge Musona beat the offside trap with a fine run to set himself up in front of goal and beat Guinea’s goalkeeper Mousa to level the score.  The goal lifted the home side’s momentum and also impressed the crowd as they cheered.

The Warriors started the second half well making the Guineans nervous.  In the 64th minute Mushekwi was substituted for Matthew Rusike, who failed to impose himself.  Eight minutes later the effective Billiat was substituted for Kuda Mahachi who was not as effective either.

In the 83rd minute the visitors almost scored goal number two, when Biugacra’s shot the ball wide.  Zimbabwe might have won the match but Musona’s brilliant free kick was saved by Guinea’s keeper.  In the end, the teams settled for a draw.

As it stands Zimbabwe is level with Swaziland in Group L with four points from two games.  As for Guinea things are not looking too good as they are sitting bottom with just one point in two games.
