XTERRA Season Kicks Off In Buffelspoort

Multisport enthusiasts taking part in the Fedhealth XTERRA Buffelspoort (North West Province) this coming weekend (22 – 24 January 2016) can look forward to an action packed start to the 2016 XTERRA Racing Season.  XTERRA Warriors that are familiar with the Buffelspoort route will be pleased to hear that the mountain bike discipline in both the XTERRA Full and XTERRA Lite races have undergone an exciting revamp.  Route manager Hendrico Burger says:  ‘The XTERRA Full MTB route will have a completely new look and feel.  The revamp was implemented to celebrate the announcement of the Magaliesberg Biosphere Nature Reserve of which the Buffelspoort Valley forms a part of.  The first 14km will venture into fresh new trails never before ridden at XTERRA.  The first half of the route will be the most challenging half which will include a couple of steep climbs and down hills.  The highlight will be the spectacular views from different vantage points on top of the plateau.  The second half of the route will be fast and less technical.  XTERRA Lite entrants are also in for a treat.  This year entrants will ride the 2015 route in reverse, making it a completely new challenge for the entrant that does not miss an event.  The XTERRA Full run route will prove to be tough with a long, steep climb just after the halfway mark.  Both the XTERRA Full and XTERRA Lite run routes will be fun, while putting trail running skills and fitness to the ultimate test.’

After a gruelling day out on route, XTERRA Warriors can look forward to recovering in the NUUN Recovery Zone.  CEO of NUUN Etienne Du Plessis says:  ‘We’ll be there to put back what the race takes out with cold coolers of our proprietary blend of electrolytes in natural, delicious flavours – all without any sugars.  Get excited for refreshing flavours like Strawberry Lemonade, Tri-Berry, Fruit Punch, Lemon and Lime and Citrus Fruit.’  Another special feature to look forward to in the NUUN Recovery Zone will be the serving of the proudly South African ButtaNutt series of authentic tree nut spreads.

Managing Director of ButtaNutt Antoine Van Heerden says:  ‘Our spreads are filled with healthy fats and proteins for sustained energy.  ButtaNutt will also be giving away an entire year’s supply to one lucky XTERRA finisher at each of the three events.’
