West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion played to 1-1 draw in the English Premier League on Sunday. This is the fifth time in their last six encounters that the two sides share the spoils at Upton Park. West Ham started off the match with a high tempo and were dominant in the first half with Mauro Zarate looking the most threatening leading the attack.
The first goal of the match came after 17 minutes from a Zarate free kick that went over West Brom’s wall and into the left corner of the net. The Hammers could have easily been two or more goals ahead in the first half but could not make the best of their chances on goal. The second goal of the match came five minutes into the second half when Ricky Lambert’s initial shot took a huge deflection onto Winston Reid’s hand and into the back of the net.
The Baggies would have most likely been awarded a penalty had it not been an own goal. Slaven Bilic’s boys lost their momentum in the second half and the visitors took advantage of that by having a better game of football in the second stanza. Darren Fletcher was given the man of the match award after an excellent performance in the midfield.
The draw puts the London club in seventh place with 22 points and Tony Pulis’players in 13th place with a total of 17 points.
