West Bromwich Albion thrashed West Ham United 4-0 at The Hawthorns in an FA Cup Fifth Round encounter on Saturday. An early foul by Alexandre Song saw West Brom being awarded a free kick just two minutes into the game. Stephane Sessegnon’s left footed attempt missed to the right though.
Claudio Yacob won a free kick for the Baggies after dangerous play by Kevin Nolan. Enner Valencia missed his attempt from a direct free kick that went too high. The 20th minute saw a change to the scoreboard after a great goal from Brown Ideye.
This saw the hosts go 1-0 in front. Chris Brunt tried a through ball but Ideye was caught offside. West Ham seemed to be absent from this game as most of the action came from the home side.
The second goal came in the 42nd minute thanks to James Morrison helping Tony Pulis’ men take a 2-0 lead at half-time. The second half started with an offside as James Tomkins tried a through ball but Diafra Sakho was caught on the wrong side of the defence.
Song tried a left footed shot but his attempt was saved before Ideye got a perfect shot in the 57th minute. His header saw him net the third goal for Pulis’ side. Morgan Amalfitano was shown a red card for instigating a fight and this simply compounded the Hammers’ problems.
Goal number four came in the 72nd minute when Saido Berahino struck a right footed shot from a difficult angle. Sam Allardyce’s troops could not catch up. The game ended 4-0 goal with Albion on their way to the quarter-finals.
