The Volkswagen Sasolracing rally team has two rally crews in the top five of the national standings with just two rounds left in the season. The penultimate round for 2014 sees the team head off to Limpopo for two days of competition around Polokwane. Hans Weijs Jnr and Björn Degandt lead the Volkswagen Sasolracing team in the national points standings with two rounds to go.
The pair have been on the podium three times already this season and aim to repeat this as the season draws to a close. The Polokwane Motor Rally, on Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 October, will see the Volkswagen Sasolracing team tackle 11 stages of competition covering 180 km of rallying distance. Henk Lategan and Barry White are just 10 points behind their teammates Weijs and Degandt. Lategan and White achieved best result of the season so far with a second place in the PMC Rally.
They have two more opportunities for rally victories this season – and will be pushing hard during the remaining events to make these their best results of the year. The Polokwane event will start with a parade by the competitors to the Polokwane Municipal Centre on Friday from 11:00 with the rally starting at midday. On Saturday the event will finish at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 13:30.
Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin will be rallying hard to break into the top five of the national standings during the final two events of the year. Zulu and Peskin have shown good pace but have not managed to achieve a podium finish yet this season. At the Sasol Rally and the Volkswagen Rally they finished in fourth place, just missing a podium result, but have two more chances to claim a top three finish this season.
