Thohoyandou Stadium saw Black Leopards go down to Vasco Da Gama in the second Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Saturday. After an eventful 120 minutes of play Vasco won the game 3-2 to book a semi-final berth. The first goal came in the 16th minute after a free kick was awarded to Leopards.
Roggert Nyundu made the free kick count which put Lidoda Duvha in the lead. The home side was now putting pressure on the visitors but it was not enough to get the desired outcome. The first half ended with Zeca Marques’ side in the lead by the odd goal.
A foul by Matthew Rowell on Bongani Manana saw a free kick being awarded. Meshack Maphangule took a great shot at goal but it thundered against the bar. The 68th minute saw Manana take a shot but missed to the right of the net.
The 70th minute saw the Cape Town side catch up as Wandisile Mdabuka’s right footed shot found the back of the net. Mumuni Abubakar took a shot at goal but his ball went over the bar. The game went into extra time as 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw.
The first half of extra time saw Morgan Shivambu scored a goal for Leopards. Zeka Karkee and Mbulelo Wambi both scored in the second half of extra time though to see Vasco into a 3-2 lead. The match ended that way as the Cape club progressed.
