The Board of FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International on Tuesday announced that it has extended the postponement of all Varsity Cup fixtures to allow universities across the country the opportunity to address various challenges faced at their respective campuses. Varsity Cup CEO Duitser Bosman says: ‘The well-being and safety of all students and those attending and participating in our events remains of the utmost importance.’ The Board will meet weekly to review and monitor the developments at the various universities before any matches resume.
On Monday 22 February the match between the NMMU Madibaz and UFS Shimlas was disrupted due to protest action. Play was stopped 17 minutes into the first half. The match resumed approximately an hour after the police and university security settled the situation and both teams agreed to continue with the match.
On Thursday 25 February the organisers took the decision to postpone all matches scheduled for Monday 29 February. That decision has now extended to games that would have originally taken place on Monday 7 March.
