University of Pretoria’s AmaTuks

University of Pretoria Football Club goes by the nickname AmaTuks and are one of three clubs based in the country’s capital city.  More to the point, the suburb of Hatfield houses Tuks.   They currently play in the Absa Premiership.

The team was founded in 2003 and is coached by Steve Barker, nephew of former Bafana Bafana boss Clive.  AmaTuks play their home games at the Tuks Stadium.  In 2004 they won the Vodacom League play-offs but they really put themselves on the map in 2009, when as a National First Division club, they went all the way to the Nedbank Cup final.  Unfortunately for Barker and his troops, they were stopped at the final hurdle by Moroka Swallows.

Tuks have had several famous players over the years including Bafana Bafana internationals like Lerato Chabangu,  Andile Jali and Bongani Khumalo.
