The match between the University of Pretoria and Mamelodi Sundowns ended in a 1-1 draw at Tuks Stadium, on Saturday afternoon in the Absa
Premiership season. The home side started the match brightly as Vuyisile Ntombayithethi took a shot in the third minute and Kennedy Mweene
punched the ball out. In the fifth minute Sundowns were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area.
Teko Modise’s free kick hits the cross bar and Khama Billiat failed to tap in as he also hit the cross bar. AmaTuks had a glorious chance but Ntombayithethi wasted a chance to put them in front. Geoffrey Massa also missed a great chance in the 19th minute of the game.
After 30 minutes it was still deadlocked 0-0 but the home side were more dangerous in the final third. In the 36th minute Tuks were awarded a free kick. Massa’s attempt was parried by Mweene but Thabo Mnyamane finished off the job for his side.
In the 43rd minute Billiat’s free kick was saved by Washington Arubi as the visitors failed to equalise as the match went to half time 1-0 to the hosts. In the second half Downs were looking for an equalising goal, as Anthony Laffor replaced Hlompo Kekane. In the 50th minute Billiat scored with his right foot as Cuthbert Malajila provided the assist for the goal.
In the 58th minute the Brazilians were awarded a free kick. Teko Modise’s shot struck the upright before Malajila scored but the goal was disallowed as he was offside. Pitso Mosimane’s men continued pressing for the second goal but the home side kept them at bay.
At the final whistle the sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
