Manchester United beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Ethihad Stadium in the English Premier League on Sunday evening. The clash between the two rivals was a highly anticipated one as the two teams are having a battle to see who will finish in the top four this season since City have fallen from the title chase. Their loss today means that the title is now all but out of their reach.
The Red Devils were disciplined, keeping possession and defending well. The Citizens did have the majority of attempts but they failed to score. Marcus Rashford scored for United on his derby debut after going past the home defenders and putting the ball past Joe Hart in the 16th minute.
The goal from Rashford would be the only strike of the whole game despite Manuel Pellegrini’s players trying hard to get something out of the match in the second half. Even though there were six minutes added on for stoppage time, the home side failed to find the back of the net and lost at home as a result. Louis Van Gaal’s men are now only one point behind their blue-clad rivals who remain in fourth place with 51 points as they continue to challenge for a spot in the top four.
