Tottenham Hotspur are through to the English League Cup semi-finals after cruising to a 3-0 quarter-final win over Newcastle United at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Spurs dominated for large periods in the first half as they sought to avenge their 2-1 league defeat from a couple of months ago. Mauricio Pochettino’s team were on course in the 18th minute when Nabil Bentaleb netted to hand the hosts the lead.
Alan Pardew’s side were not going to cave in knowing that in the league win in London they also trailed 1-0 at half-time but struck early in the second period. There would be another early second stanza strike but this time it was in favour of Pochettino’s side.
A cross from the left found Nacer Chadli who moved along the edge of the area creating space for himself before blasting past a despairing Jak Alnwick. From a throw in on the left side Andros Townsend played in Harry Kane who shook off Mike Williamson to slot past Alnwick and make it three. Pardew’s problems increased 66 minutes when Moussa Sissoko went down with an injury and limped off.
It was four just a few mintues later when Alnwick parried Christian Eriksen’s shot straight to Roberto Soldado and after recomposing himself the Spaniard basted past the Magpies keeper from six yards.
