The Europa League saw Tottenham Hotspur cruise past AEL Limassol at White Hart Lane on Thursday 3-0 and 5-1 on aggregate. The first two minutes of the game saw AEL take possession in their own half. Karim Fegrouch was injuried and his injury caused a delay in the match and a forced substitute had to be made as Pulpo Romero came on.
Harry Kane took a penalty for Spurs but his effort was saved. However Kane would not give up as he headed for goal again but his shot was blocked. In the 28th minute Kyle Naughton headed the ball towards goal to Kane but it was deflected wide for a corner.
Luciano Bebe was yellow carded for a bad foul in the 41st minute. After missing a penalty earlier on Kane finally increased the aggregate by scoring the first goal of the match in the 45th minute. Andros Townsend was shown a yellow card in the seven added minutes before half-time arrived with the hosts 1-0 up.
Paulinho scored the second goal in the 49th minute. Ben Davies was penalised for a foul before Diego Barcelo’s chip into the area was headed away. A penality was awarded to Spurs when Edmar handballed in the area. Townsend made good use of the chance and scored the third goal for Spurs.
This put Tottenham in a comfortable position 5-1 ahead on aggregate. Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked for a fourth goal but were denied on both occasions. The 79th minute saw Townsend try his luck at the post but his shot was tipped over.
Soon after in the 84th minute Paulinho’s overhead kick was punched out and Kane’s rebound was blocked. The game ended with Tottenham Hotspur progressing to the group stages of the Europa League for the fourth straight year.
