Swansea City defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium in the English Premier League on Saturday. The Swans were looking for a win in order to give themselves some breathing space in the relegation battle and have successfully done so. Villa were dominating the first half, looking very dangerous going forward and had a few promising shots at goal, none of which materialised.
Towards the end of the half Swansea had got it together. They had more control of the ball and did not lose it so easily and they even tightened up, especially with defender Ashley Williams being the core of the defence at the back preventing the visitors from going ahead. The first stanza of the match ended with no goals but it certainly looked as if the second was going to be a different story.
The Swans picked up on the momentum they had created in the first 45 minutes of the match and even started giving the Villans a bit of a hard time. The hosts went ahead in the 53rd minute when goalkeeper Brad Guzan’s mistake gave Federico Fernandez a chance to head home from the six yard box. Remi Garde’s woes continue in the relegation dog fight and his side remains at the absolute bottom of the table and if they do not pick up points soon they will become the first team this season to be confimed as relegated.
