Swansea City beat Watford by one goal at the Liberty Stadium in the English Premier League on Monday evening. The Swans were in desperate need of a win in order to move out of the relegation zone. City was the better team from the beginning of the match, as it put plenty of pressure on its opponent with many shots on goal.
The attacking moves from Swansea finally paid off when their captain Ashley Williams put away a header into the far corner of the net from Ki Sung-Yueng’s cross after 27 minutes of play. The goal lifted the team and they had more possession than the Hornets, who were not very promising as they saw little of the ball. Quique Sanchez Flores’ charges looked a lot better in the second half of the match and challenged the hosts more.
Both teams were looking dangerous and had a hunger to score. The home team was clearly desperate to make its lead a more comfortable one while the visitors were just looking for an equaliser. The Welsh club was still the team on the front foot even though Flores’ men were playing a lot better.
In the last five minutes of the match, the away side brought on attacking players for the defensive ones making it clear that they were looking to salvage a point out of the match, but they did not manage to find that goal they needed and went down 1-0. The win for Swansea takes them out of the bottom three of the league while Watford remain in 12th place with 29 points.
