Suresh Raina top scored with 90 runs from 43 balls and Mohit Sharma finished with figures of 4/41 as the Chennai Super Kings crushed the Dolphins by 54 runs in their Champions League T20 match on Monday. The KZN franchise won the toss and put Chennai in to bat. They lost Darren Smith (7) early followed by Brendan McCullum (49) with their score on 99/1. Raina joined Faf Du Plessis at the crease putting on a 65-run partnership and played a blinder of an innings by smashing 90 before he departed.
The CSK skipper was the next man in but was not able to add to his sides total as he was dismissed for a duck by Robbie Frylinck (2/52) with his side on 174/4. Du Plessis scored a well played 30 before he departed followed by Dwayne Bravo (11). Ravindra Jadeja scored 40 not out as he helped his side to an imposing 242/6.
In reply the men from Durban lost their captain Morne Van wyk when he was trapped LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin (1/38) as they found themselves on 34/1. Cameron Delport scored a great knock scoring 34 runs off nine balls before he was clean bowled by Sharma (4/41). Keshav Maharaj scored eight runs before he too was dismissed by Sharma with the Dolphins on 90/3.
Cody Chetty scored 37 runs before he was caught at square leg by Bravo. A batting collapse occurred when the South Africans lost Vaughan Van Jaarsveld (30), Khaya Zondo (9) and Frylinck (6) as they found themselves on 164/8 requiring an improbable 79 runs off 18 balls. Kyle Abbott (5) and Andile Phehlukwayo (22) were the last two wickets to fall as they found themselves 188 all out and the Super Kings ran out winners by 54 runs to record their first win of the competition.
