SuperSport Into Semis Of Nedbank Cup

SuperSport United clinched a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in a catchy Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash on Saturday night.  Abafana Bes’thende looked promising going forward in the early exchanges, however a goal proved hard to come by.  Following a quiet start, the match lit up later in the opening stanza with Gordon Igesund’s men creating two glorious chances but failed to convert them.

Max Mbaeva was outstanding in goal producing a series of great saves to deny a side that eliminated the champions of this cup.  Both sides looked lively but neither managed to take the lead in the first 45.  Matsantsantsa were out for blood in the second stanza as Kingston Nkhatha had his volley saved by the keeper.

The NFD side did not sit back, however their attempts were either saved by Ronwen Williams or wide of goal.  The match was played as though no goal would be scored after the hour mark, but Bradley Grobler had other plans.  The former Platinum Stars man grabbed the lead for his side in the 71st minute.

Despite a handful of attempts later in the match, Shaun Bartlett’s men failed to find an equaliser.  The boys from the capital city held on to their lead until the final whistle and continued to march a step closer to the final.
