Supersport United and Chippa United drew 1-1 in an Absa Premiership played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. Just eight minutes into the game, Kingston Nkhatha’s powerful drive was almost fumbled by Chippa goalkeeper Ayanda Masiko, but he did well to recover for the home side. But it was the away side who scored first through Joseph Molangoane in the 17th minute.
The diminutive winger tapped the ball home to make it 1-0 to Chippa. Matsatsantsa nearly responded with a goal four minutes later, but Chippa shot-stopper Masiko made a great save to deny Jeremy Brockie. The home side continued to press for the equalising goal and in the 33rd minute Nkhatha forced Masiko into a low save.
Their pressure paid off on the stroke of half- time after Chilli Boys captain James Okwuosa was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. Zimbabwean striker Nkhatha then stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 1-1 on the day. SuperSport full-back Grant Kekana pushed forward eight minutes into the second-half and played a good cross into the Chippa box, but Okwuosa made a clearance.
Chippa right-back Diamond Thopola tried his luck from range a minute before the hour- mark and his attempt sailed over SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams’ goal. The visitors made a change in the 71st minute introducing Zaphaniah Mbokoma for Rhulani Manzini as Chippa looked to snatch a late winner. Matsatsantsa midfielder Micheal Morton pulled the trigger from range six minutes later and his shot went wide of the target without troubling Masiko in the Chippa goal.
With nine minutes left on the clock, Chippa midfielder Xola Mlambo placed his shot over the crossbar and ultimately, Matsatsantsa and the Chilli Boys settled for a 1-1 draw.
