A superb bowling display by Trent Boult helped the Sunrisers Hyderabad record a 20 run victory over the Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Monday. The Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to field. The visitors had only 10 runs on the board before the first wicket fell, with Shikhar Dhawan (1) dismissed by Mitchell Johnson.
Hanuma Vihari (9) had a short-lived stay at the crease as he misjudged the pace of Anureet Singh’s slow ball and spooned a catch to square-leg. David Warner contributed with 58 from 41 balls before being dismissed by Axar Petal, with the Sunrisers 76/3 after 9.5 overs. Moises Henriques and Naman Ojha put together a decent partnership of 58 runs to help the Sunrisers cross the 100 run mark.
Ravi Bopara and Ashish Reddy (22 not out) cameoed as the hosts completed their 20 overs with a score of 150/6. Dismal batting displays by Manan Vohra (5) and Shaun Marsh (1) had Punjab 13/2 after 3.1 overs. However Murali Vijay and George Bailey, who formed the new partnership at the crease, combined well to stop the mini collapse by putting 34 runs on the board before the latter was dismissed by Henriques as Sanjay Bangar’s boys were 45/3, before Vijay was run out by Vihari.
David Miller (15) cameoed for the hosts before Wriddhiman Saha and Patel put together a partnership of 59 runs but both were dismissed by Boult’s clinical bowling, as Punjab needed 28 runs to win from 12 balls. A marvellous catch from Warner in the final over helped seal the win for the visitors, with the victory taking the Sunrisers up to fifth on the IPL table.
