A well-taken half century from David Warner helped guide the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a five-run win over the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday. The Sunrisers won the toss and opted to bat first. Warner and Shikhar Dhawan got proceedings under way in the centre, and the pair got off to a good start to put a combined score of 56 runs on the board before the first wicket fell in the seventh over, as Dhawan (24) was struck out by Wriddhiman Saha.
Moises Henriques (28) joined Warner before the Australian was dismissed after his mishit ball was easily captured by Anureet Singh at the boundary. Beuran Hendricks claimed two wickets by removing Eoin Morgan (17) and Warner, who provided 81 runs from 52 balls,which included an impressive five sixes and six fours (157/4). Naman Ojha (2) was the last wicket to fall after being run out by George Bailey, while the partnership of Lokesh Rahul and Karn Sharma remained unbeaten as the Sunrisers finished with a score of 185/5 after 20 overs.
Murali Vijay (24) and Manan Vohra (20) got the chase underway for Punjab but the pair was sent packing by Bipul Sharma after 6.1 overs. The visitors lost a further two wickets as they were 65/4 after nine overs. David Miller and George Bailey (6) were next up to bat but they could only add 17 runs before the captain was dismissed by Henriques.
Gurkeerat Singh Mann (3) cameoed before Axar Patel joined Miller at the crease, however his stay was short-lived after he fell for 15 from Ojha’s catch. Miller finished the innings unbeaten with a superb 89 from 44 balls, which was aided by nine sixes. However, it wasn’t enough as the Sunrisers recorded their fifth win in six, which moved them up to fourth on the IPL standings.
