Mamelodi Sundowns won 5-2 against Free State Stars at James Motlatsi Stadium in an entertaining Absa Premiership encounter on Sunday. On paper Masandawana were bound to have the goings easy against the boys from Bethlehem. However on the field the wheel turned in different directions as Stars scored just two minutes into the match through Danny Venter.
From there on, Pitso Mosimane’s men pushed forward fiercely looking for an equaliser but the home side denied them too much time on the ball. The visitors were frustrated by the resolute Ea Lla Koto defense heading to the half-time whistle. In the 42nd minute, Mosimane’s men found their equaliser through Wayne Arendse to level matters at the break.
Ka Bo Yellow took the lead for the first time in the match in the 58th minute through Keagan Dolly. Much of the work leading to the goal was done by Mzikayise Mashaba as he drilled past the defence to set up Dolly. Masandawana were cruising as right after the hour mark, Leonardo Castro sliced one past the keeper to make it 3-1.
Giovanni Solinas saw his side weakening by every Downs attack but fortunately for them the boys from Pretoria were not all that clinical. In the 77th minute, there was no denying the ruthless Downs as Teko Modise unleashed a goal bound shot but the keeper was alert only to parry it into the path of Khama Biliat who headed home to make it 4-1. Stars looked out of shape heading to the last minutes of the match and in the 87th minute Mogakolodi Ngele went on a solo run past the defenders to put one into the back of the net to make it 5-1.
Goals were the order of the day as in the 90th minute, goal scorer Venter turned provider as he set up the last goal of the match to make it 5-2 at the end of the match. The Brazilians continue on their winning ways and cemented their place at the summit of the log with 42 points.
