Mamelodi Sundowns beat Jomo Cosmos 2-0 at Olen Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday in the Absa Premiership. Keagan Dolly scored both goals for Sundowns on a day that saw them climb to sixth on the table. Cosmos were dominating the beginning of the first half and Sipho Mngomezulu fired a shot on target in the 12th minute forcing Dennis Onyago in to action.
Ontago needed to make a save when Brice Aka shot a long ball towards the goal and then Cheslyn Jampies had a 30-yard free-kick go just over the crossbar in the 20th minute. The only problem for Jomo Sono’s side was that it could not get the breakthrough. Downs started the game decent but they were fortunate to get the first goal after that Jampies free kick.
Dolly headed the ball into the goal after what seemed a shot from Teko Modise but they all count. In the second half Ezenkosi created more chances and the best opportunity came when Onyongo was forced to make another save when Thabang Monore shot the ball from 30-yards out. Even though Sono’s side was creating many chances it was the visitors who scored again after the ball was squared to Dolly, who did not hesitate to put it in the goal with a delicate left foot.
This occurred in second half stoppage time. Cosmos have suffered another defeat which puts them in second-last position on the log. They will be looking for their first win on 17 October when they are away to Bidvest Wits.
