Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways as they recorded a 2-1 victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces in Wednesday’s Absa Premiership encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Pitso Mosimane’s men were quick to put their iffy performance over the weekend against Golden Arrows behind them. Khama Billiat dribbled past an opponent defender to lay a decent cross and Mzikayise Mashaba finished for the first goal.
The home side doubled the lead in the ninth minute as Hlompho Kekana twisted and turned before firing a great shot home. The game’s intensity dropped as the first half progressed. Nevertheless, the log leaders went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage. The visitors’ first chance came in the 59th minute but top scorer Collins Mbesuma’s effort was wide.
Aces continued to press but this time Thanduyise Khuboni wasted a glorious opportunity as he struck a shot that had little venom. Amaziyoni continued knocking at the door and Denis Onyango was forced to make a double save after a great run by Aubrey Mngoma. Mashaba should have grabbed his brace after Vincent Koloba’s blunder but was denied by the crossbar.
In the end, Mpho Matsi headed what served as a consolation for Muhsin Ertugal’s men.
