The Stormers achieved a famous 32-18 Super Rugby win against the Waratahs in their clash at the Allianz Stadium, Sydney on Saturday. The Capetonians started the match well, applying pressure throughout the first half and controlling possession. In the fourth minute, the visitors won a penalty which Demetri Catrakilis slotted.
Six minutes later the Tahs responded with a try after Bernard Foley made use of a penalty. Foley found space on the left side and made use of it, after playing possession to another player the ball found Taqele Naiyaravoro who pushed over the line for a try. The conversion was missed. In the 16th minute Catrakilis slotted his second penalty of the match.
Four minutes later Damien De Allende ran over the try line after a breakthrough pass from Schalk Burger who collected an inside kick pass from Dillyn Leyds. Catrakilis slotted the conversion. For the next 14 minutes the away side controlled the game.
However six minutes from half-time, Foley slotted a penalty. On the 39th minute Rob Home was awarded a try after a TMO decision. This was after Nick Phipps turned the ball left of the scrum.
Possession was exchanged which ended with the attacking side over the try line. Six minutes into the second half Kobus Van Wyk crossed the try line after collecting a cross kick from substitute Kurt Coleman. Coleman slotted the conversion.
In the 51st minute the TMO decision worked against the hosts as the review found that Foley had knocked on the ball before he reached the try line. Foley would slot a penalty just six minutes later. The home team would be the ones to control the game, at a point controlling 70% of the possession.
But then Juan De Jongh intercepted a Tahs play, then fed De Allende who dashed for the try line. Coleman converted. In the 76th minute, after some number of phases of exchanging possession the Tahs dropped the ball which Cheslin Klobe picked up the ball, sprinted 70 metres and reached the try line.
Coleman missed the resulting conversion but it would not matter as the final score stood at 35-18 to Allister Coetzee’s side.
