The Stormers left Loftus Versfeld with a 29-17 Vodacom Super Rugby win over the Bulls on Saturday. In their last encounter nearly six months ago, the Cape franchise ran out 16-0 winners. On this occasion the. Pretoria side scored the first try five minutes into the game thanks to Deon Stegmann.
Allister Coetzee’s side s evened the score with a try by Dillyn Leyds in the eighth minute, followed by a Demetri Catrakilis conversion to hand the visitors a 7-5 advantage. In the 14th minute Catrakilis landed a three-pointer from about 40 metres before Duane Vermeulen went over in the 28th minute. Catrakilis added the two points to make the score 17-5 at the break.
In the second half the hosts were back in the game after Handre Pollard took a penalty resulting from a ruck infringement. Two more penalties were taken by Pollard but the DHL Stormers kept the scoreboard ticking over too. With 20 minutes to plat Pollard brought the score to 20-17 after Rynhardt Elstadt was blown up for a wrongful act.
Coetzee’s men maintained their lead though and six minutes before full time Kurt Coleman, Demetri Catrakilis’ replacement, landed his first three-pointer after the Bulls front row was blown up for illegal scrummaging. Two minutes later Coleman landed a drop goal to ensure a 29-17 triumph.
