Stoke City held out to defeat Newcastle United 1-0 in the English Premier League at the Britannia Stadium on Monday night. Stoke took an early lead with Peter Crouch bagging a goal on 15 minutes. A decent touch inside and shot from Paul Dummett was deflected over for a corner as the Magpies looked for the equaliser.
Newcastle continued pressing but could not get a shot to test Asmir Begovic sufficiently. Mark Hughes’ side came back from half-time looking for a goal to put the visitors out of the contest. The hosts almost doubled their advantage with Victor Moses but Tim Krul saved the day.
Jack Colback had a chance to record a goal in front of the away fans but he hit the crossbar with the goal at his mercy. It finished with a Potters win at home, while the Magpies remain winless after six games as the pressure increases on Alan Pardew.
