Stars Shine In Free State Derby

Free State Stars beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Goble Stadium in Bethlehem on Saturday in the Absa Premiership.  This win sees them move up to sixth place.  The first few minutes of the game were unexciting as both teams lacked creativity and were giving away the ball too easily.

In the 22nd minute Lucky Mohomi hit a dazzling strike which was the first and only goal of the game.  Celtic was behind and held in Stars’ territory as they struggled to make any decent shots on target and Ea Lla Koto’s defence was making sure no goal was conceded.  In the 40th minute the hosts came close to capitalising as Geoffrey Massa took a powerful free kick but it just went wide.

Phunya Sele Sele came back with everything they had and looked more enthusiastic.  Despite all their efforts, they were unable to fnd the breakthrough they needed, thanks to Stars goalkeeper Dauda Diakite, who pulled off a strng of good saves.  His best save was in the 59th minute when Lerato Lamola shot the ball towards goal with a hurled effort, but Diakite made it look easy.

In the 80th minute Diakite was tested again after substitute Dumisani Zuma took a shot with his right foot, but the ball went wide to the right.  That was the last and final chance from either side.  Serame Letsoaka’s lad have not won any of their last nine games but remain in eight position.
