Stanislas Wawrinka is through to the Roland Garros semi-finals but it has come at the expense of perennial crowd favourite Roger Federer. Wawrinka downed his second-seeded countryman 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 on Suzanne-Lenglen Court on Tuesday. The eighth-seeded Swiss is set to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals.
The 14th seed, and hometown darling, stopped Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3 in an epic on Philippe-Chartrier Court. Tsonga hit 44 winners and won 83% of the points on his first serve n his way to victory against the Japanese. On Wednesday Andy Murray meets David Ferrer and the match of the tournament so far pits nine-time champion in Paris Rafael Nadal against the irresistable world number one Novak Djokovic.
