The rain and gloom did not stop Tottenham Hotspur from slapping Sunderland 5-1 after they were trailing in an English Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane on Monday. This was a very unpredictable game as it started completely differently from the way it ended. Lee Cattermole was the most unlikely goal scorer but he proved his doubters wrong as he scored from outside the box with a wonderful touch in the 19th minute to hand the visitors the lead.
The first booking for the night went to Marcos Alonso in the 20th minute. Emmanuel Adebayor scored the equaliser for Spurs by nudging the ball over the line in the 28th minute. After the goal by the Togolese forward came out guns blazing with several goal attempts by Harry Kane, Paulinho, Danny Rose and Adebayor however the half time score was still just 1-1.
The second half saw the Black Cats dominating the first 10 minutes. Their momentum was slowed down by making small mistakes like being found offside. The 59th minute saw Harry Kane netting a second goal for Spurs with a little touch. Sunderland seemed a bit absent from the game after that second goal by Spurs. The game was then delayed due to serious injuries to Wes Brown and Kane.
Tottenham did not relax in any way as they kept on pushing for more goals. In the 75th minute Christian Eriksen scored yet another goal for Spurs. Adebayor did not hold back when he scored the fourth goal for Spurs before Gylfi Sigurdsson added a fifth close to the end of the game sealing the deal for Tim Sherwood’s Spurs and capping a nightmare night for Gus Poyet’s Sunderland.
