Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a 1-0 win over Stoke City at the Brittania Stadium on Saturday in the English Premier League. The away victory was ensured by Danny Rose’s header at a ground that is notoriously difficult for visiting teams to win at. Nacer Chadli almost scored in the first minute of the game when he ran before a shot. Stoke pushed on in the first minutes of the game, suggesting potential danger.
A free kick from Christian Eriksen needed a touch from Emmanuel Adebayor in front of goal to open the scoring but Asmir Begovic was able to make the save. The Potters’ chances of winning faded when Ryan Shawcross got his second yellow card and was sent off. Coach Tim Sherwood knew his men had the advantage from that point.
Sherwood replaced Rose with Zeki Fryers as the goalscoring hero was on a yellow already and the Spurs boss was keen to maintain the numerical advantage. After a tackle with Geoff Cameron, Andros Townsend suffered an injury that left him limping for the last 10 minutes of the game. There was still a chance in the added four minutes at the end for the game for Mark Hughes’ men when Marko Arnautovic broke through from the centre and turned away from Michael Dawson into the box but he was unlucky to miss the target.
