Spurs Keep Title Hopes Alive

Harry Kane struck twice against Aston Villa to hand Tottenham Hotspur a 2-0 victory at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon in a crucial English Premier League encounter.  The win sends Spurs two points adrift of log leaders Leicester City.  The encounter lit up as early as the fourth minute with Kane striking the crossbar.  It was all-Spurs inside the opening ten minutes however a goal proved hard to come by.

Villa were on the backfoot for the most part of the first stanza and were almost punished in the 30th minute when Erik Lamela was played in on goal by Kyle Walker and the former saw his attempt saved to the post by Brad Guzan.  Persistence finally paid dividends for Tottenham in the first minute of stoppage time when Kane beautifully gathered from Dele Ali’s quick free kick to slot home an opener to hand the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead.  Three minutes into the second stanza, Kane doubled his tally with yet another combination of play between Ali and Lamela to set up the English talisman.

The home side struggled to get anything going behind the away defence.  In the 78th minute, Christian Eriksen almost increased the lead for Mauricio Pochettino’s players but he skied his attempt.  The lacklustre Villans continued to chase shadows in seeing out the remainder of the match.

There would be no comeback for the Birmingham boys as the Londoners bagbed three crucial points to ensure their title hopes are very much alive with eight games to go.
