South Africa have been drawn in Pool A for their Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group II tie taking place at the Tere Tennis Centre in Talinn, Estonia. The South Africans will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt and Estonia in their group matches. The official draw was announced by the ITF today for the four day event taking place from 4-7 February.
The eight nations contesting the Europe/Africa Zone Group II event Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and South Africa will be bidding for promotion to the Europe/Africa Zone Group I in 2016. Three top 100 players are competing in the event namely, Kaia Kanepi of Estonia currently ranked 48 in the world, South African Chani Scheepers ranked 83 and Slovenian Polona Hercog ranked 88. Team Captain Earl Grainger said, “It’s very cold here, the facilities are great, the teams are extremely tough too and two teams namely Estonia and Slovenia are a bit stronger than us but that is only on paper. We have drawn the host Estonia in our group alongside Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This group is real tough.”
Grainger said that having Chani Scheepers in the South African line up was a boost for the South African chances, “Chani has been really fantastic since her arrival in Estonia and we had a great training session together with her fellow teammates, the girls have loved having her around and she brings positive professionalism to the team.” South Africa will play Egypt for their opening match on Wednesday.
