Caroline Wozniacki Reaches US Open Final

Caroline Wozniacki will play in her first US Open women’s singles final since 2009 after defeating Shuai Peng in the semi-finals on Friday in New York.  This match turned out to be very eventful as both ladies gave as good as they got.  The Dane won after the Chinese was  injuried and unable to continue playing.  Wozniacki was ahead 7-6, 4-3.

The battle began as both players fought hard to win the first set to.  Peng was in the lead 4-3 after breaking the tenth seed.  The 24-year old looked to break back and she did so immediately.

Soon after the first set went to a tiebreak.  The former world number one finally won the first set 7-6.  Peng’s game took a turn for the worst as she injured her right leg.  After taking a medical time out Peng managed to return to the court 10 minutes later.

However it was not long before the 28-year old was forced to retire.  The match ended with an emotional Peng wheelchaired off the court and her dream of reaching the final ending in tatters.
