The Sharks will look to bounce back when they meet the Lions in Johannesburg this Saturday, kick off at 17:05, in Super Rugby. Cell C Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold has opted for Odwa Ndungane at full back with S’bura Sithole and Lwazi Mvovo completing the back three. Waylon Murray and Andre Esterhuizen form the midfield pairing with Fred Zeilinga at flyhalf and Cobus Reinach the scrumhalf.
Gold says: ‘Our performance this past weekend was unacceptable and we have taken full responsibility for the result and are determined to fix it this weekend. I believe in these players, we have a great group of guys. We are just not playing well at the moment and nobody can deny that. We are just going to have to show some character. We are going to have to step up to the plate. It is as simple as that.’ Ryan Kankowski, Renaldo Bothma and Marcell Coetzee will form the loose trio with Marco Wentzel captaining the side from lock, where he will be partnered by Mouritz Botha. The front row is made up of Lourens Adriaanse, Franco Marais and Dale Chadwick.
Gold says: ‘The Lions are playing some fantastic rugby and have come off a great tour. We are under no illusions about the toughness of the task on Saturday; however, in saying that, we have worked extremely hard this week and are determined to get our campaign back on track.’ The replacements bench looks as follows:
16. Monde Hadebe
17. Thomas Du Toit
18. Matt Stevens
19. Etienne Oosthuizen
20. Willem Alberts
21. Conrad Hoffmann
22. Lionel Cronje
23. Jack Wilson
Over the years the Durban franchise has dominated this fixture with 11 wins from 14 outings. Most recently in 2015 Gold’s side triumphed 29-12 on home turf.
