Sharks Show Teeth For Bulls Battle

The Sharks have named their match day squad for Saturday’s trip to Loftus Versfeld to take on the Bulls in the third round of Vodacom Super Rugby.  Director of Rugby Gary Gold has opted for SP Marais at fullback with Odwa Ndungane and Lwazi Mvovo on the wings.  Waylon Murray and Andre Esterhuizen are the centre pairing with Patrick Lambie and Cobus Reinach at halfback.  Intensity coach Paul Anthony says:  ‘What is ideal is that we put in a better performance against the Lions after losing to the Cheetahs.  We want our players to be accountable for how they perform.  That game we lost, as with the Bulls against the Hurricanes, those were both literally millimetres away from victories.’

Ryan Kankowski is back at eighthman and will form the loose trio with Renaldo Bothma and Marcell Coetzee.  Pieter-Steph Du Toit and Lubabalo Mtyanda are at lock with the front row comprising of Jannie Du Plessis, captain Bismarck Du Plessis (C) and Dale Chadwick.  The replacements are as follows:

16. Kyle Cooper
17. Thomas Du Toit
18. Lourens Adriaanse
19. Marco Wentzel
20. Jean Deysel
21. Conrad Hoffmann
22. Fred Zeilinga/Lionel Cronje
23. Jack Wilson

Anthony added:  ‘Without a doubt the players felt accountable after the Cheetahs loss.  They knew that they weren’t on par, they were disappointed with themselves.  In one-on-ones afterwards, regarding the effort level, I didn’t have to say anything; they showed the lack of effort and were all accountable.  But they all lifted their performances markedly and we’re hoping to lift it even more, game after game.’  In 24 previous encounters the Bulls have 13 wins to the nine of the Cell C Sharks.  The Pretoria franchise is the only South African franchise to hold a positive win/loss record over the Durbanites, who have only won three of the last 10 meetings between these sides.
