The Sharks beat the Stormers 18-13 in the much-anticipated Super Rugby encounter on Saturday in Cape Town. The two sides started the match slowly as they were equal at all levels. The visitors slotted the first three pointer of the match deep inside the opening stanza. In the 19th minute, the hosts levelled matters. Leolin Zas scored a try on the half-hour mark to send Robbie Fleck’s side into a 10-3 lead at the break.
The Durbanites were the first to put points on the board in the second half when a TMO decision awarded Cobus Reinach with a penalty try as Siya Kolisi was sin binned and after Joe Pietersen’s conversion it was 10-10. After levelling matters, the match lit up as both sides looked to find getaway points. Gary Gold’s men failed to capitalise when their opponents were down to 14 men.
Pieterson gave the travelling side a three points lead at the hour mark with a well-struck penalty. Fleck’s side were trailing by three points with ten minutes left to play. In the 74th minute, the Stormers levelled matters thanks to Kurt Coleman’s boot but shortly after that Pieterson sealed the deal for Gold’s troops with a try of his own which ensured the KZN franchise left the Mother city with an 18-13 victory.
