Several Changes For Lions

The Golden Lions have rung the changes for their final Absa Currie Cup group stage match against Griquas on Saturday in Johannesburg. Martin Muller was injured during training on Thursday and will only be assessed on Friday. Should he not be available, a few changes to the starting line-up will take place.

Warren Whiteley will come in at number eight and also take over the captaincy. Fabian Booysen will move to the bench. Bobby De Wee will move up from the bench to start at lock and Ruaan Lerm will move to flank.

Van Der Walt brothers Jaco and Gerdus will run out together for the Lions in this 16:05 kick-off. Jaco will don the number 10 jersey while Gerdus will be at inside centre partnering Jacques Nel in midfield. The side will be led on the field by scrumhalf Ricky Schroeder while a host of Under-21 players have been given the opportunity to taste Currie Cup rugby in this last game of the pool stages.

Up front Robbie Coetzee returns after a two week lay-off and is joined by Pieter Scholtz at tighthead. The locks are MB Lusaseni and Martin Muller while Kwagga Smith, Fabian Booysen and Ruaan Lerm will form the loose-trio. Mark Richards and Sampie Mastriet are the wings and Vainon Willis the fullback.

The bench also boasts few new faces in Mark Pretorius, Jacques Van Rooyen, Bobby De Wee, Lohan Jacobs and Salom Gavor while Stephan De Witt and Rohan Janse Van Rensburg will also watch proceedings from the sideline.
