Several Changes For Cheetahs

Toyota Cheetahs head coach, Naka Drotske announced the team to take on the Brumbies on Saturday, 4 April at 10:40 (SA Time) in Canberra, Australia.  Ben O’Keeffe of New Zealand will be the referee for Saturday’s Vodacom Super Rugby Round 8 match at the Gio Stadium in the Australian capital.  This will be the 10th Super Rugby encounter between the two teams since 8 April 2006.

The ACT franchise leads by six wins to the three of the Cheetahs.  It will also be the sixth time the teams meet at the Gio Stadium in Canberra since the first encounter on 8 April 2006.  The two-time champions have won all five previous matches on home turf.

The last time the Australians hosted the Bloemfontein boys they won a play-off on 20 July 2013 by 15-13 despite the visitors outscoring their hosts two tries to one.  Drotske’s men won the last match between these two teams on 17 May 2014 at the Free State Stadium 27-21.

Drotske has made a couple of changes have been made to the team.   Fullback Willie Le Roux, centres Johann Sadie and Francois Venter, Tian Meyer, lock Carl Wegner, hooker Torsten Van Jaarsveld, props Coenie Oosthuizen and Danie Mienie are all changes.  Springboks Le Roux and Oosthuizen are making their return after being rested last week in accordance with the agreement with SA Rugby.

Scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius, who missed the first two games of the tour as he attended the birth of his second son in Bloemfontein, is a welcome arrival in the camp.  Pretorius will be playing from the bench with Meyer in the starting line-up.  Sadie has recovered from flu, which made him a last minute withdrawal last week in Hamilton, and will take his place in the midfield together with Venter.

They are replacing Ryno Benjamin and Michael Van Der Spuy.  Willie Britz moves from flanker to number eight and Boom Prinsloo will be wearing the number seven jersey.  Wegner and Steven Sykes, Van Jaarsveld and Stephan Coetzee, and Mienie and BG Uys switch places.

Tienie Burger is new on the bench.  He replaced Teboho Mohoje on tour, who returned home after suffering from a groin injury.  The Free State franchise has lost Jean Cook to an abdominal muscle injury.

Cook returned home and Carel Greeff joined the team earlier this week.  Venter is the vice-captain.
