Serena Williams Eliminated At Roland Garros

World number one Serena Williams was knocked out of Roland Garros in the second round by Garbine Muguruza 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday.  The two-time French Open champion was ousted in a dominant fashion familiar to the way she has vanquished opponents over the years.  In other women’s singles results, the American’s sister Venus was also a second round casualty.  Williams Senior was beaten Anna Schmiedlova 2-6, 6-3-, 6-4 in an earlier match in Paris.

There were no problems for any of the other big names in Paris on Wednesday.  Germany’s Angelique Kerber beat Varvara Lepchenko 6-2, 7-5.  Dominika Cibulkova defeated Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-4.  Agnieszka Radwanska, who will now be at the front line of those challenging for the crown, fought off Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-4 and 2012 champion Maria Sharapova was too strong for Tsvetana Pironkova 7-5, 6-2 in the French capital.
