Nigeria played out a 2-2 with Scotland in an international friendly at Craven Cottage, London on Wednesday as they continued their FIFA World Cup™ preparation. Four minutes into the game, Ikechi Anya kicked the ball and threatened the goalkeeper as the ball passed the keeper but didn’t enter into the goal post. Four minutes later, Charles Mulgrew scored the first goal, it was truly an unexpected goal, but the Scots were in the lead.
Anya tried to score but his kick didn’t hold enough power as the keeper made an easy save. Ejike Uzoenyi attempted a long shot but it failed to reach the goals. Andy Robertson looked to double the Scottish advantage, but his shot but failed to hit the target.
Uwa Elderson saved a goal as he pushed the ball away with a header to keep Nigeria in it. Shola Ameobi then tried to level for the Super Eagles but his attempt fell right into Allen McGregor’s hands.
The goal finally arrived in the 41st minute. Michael Uchebo scored as McGregor fluffed in the air failing to collect the ball. Ameobi nearly scored to hand the West Africans the half-time lead but his shot went over the goal post.
The second half started off with James Morrison taking a shot and Azubaike Egwuekwe accompanied the ball into the goal post as Scotland took the lead sending the Tartan Army into rapturous joy. Shaun Maloney then looked to have made it 3-1, but the Scot was offside. Victor Moses nearly scored for the Nigerians but his shot was high and handsome as he searched for an equaliser.
Stephen Keshi’s men were rewarded in the 85th minute when Uche Nwofor equalised on 89 minutes. Just four minutes earlier his header had failed to score but he redeemed himself in time to ensure a 2-2 draw.
