A Jordan Taufua try saw the Crusaders edge the Western Force 20-19 in their Super Rugby encounter at the NIB Stadium in Perth on Friday. The visitors dominated the opening 45 minutes scoring two tries from Johnny McNicholl and Mitchell Drummond which was topped up by a Rich Mo’unga penalty as they took a 13-6 lead into the break. For the hosts they could only manage two penalties as they were kept at bay by their cross-Tasman rivals.
In the second stanza the home side looked to have found their feet as Peter Grant successfully slotted two more penalties and Ryan Louwrens crossed the whitewash after a brilliant build up started by Solomoni Rasolea put them ahead 19-13. There was a decent passage of play from the men in blue as they kept possession and protected their lead however it was not enough as the Saders ran in a try of their own from Taufua with two minutes remaining in the match to seal a 20-19 victory for the away side.
As a result Todd Blackadder’s boys record their fifth victory of the tournament finding themselves in fourth spot on the Australasian conference. The Perth side find themselves in ninth place two points above bottom of the log Reds.
