The Easterns Titans franchise coach, Rob Walter, has signed a three-year extension to his contract that will keep him at the helm of the Titans until 2017. Walter was originally contracted until the end of the 2014/2015 season, but the new contract will secure his services for another three seasons. Under the tutelage of the 39-year-old, who arrived back at fortress SuperSport Park from the South African team in 2013, the Titans shared the Momentum One Day Cup trophy with the Cape Cobras in his first season as coach of the Titans.
They also reached the semi-final play-offs of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge in 2013/2014. Subsequently, the popular coach was nominated in the Cricket South Africa Coach of the year category for 2014. Jacques Faul, CEO of the franchise applauded his role, “Walter is a proponent of nurturing young talent, as is evident in his team selections. He is also popular among The Unlimited Titans fans. His approach is characterized by an unwavering commitment to the development of skills, his belief in the players and his uncompromising work ethic.”
Reflecting on the 2014/2015 season, Walter said, It is a huge honour to be given this extension and I am grateful for the faith that all parties have shown in me, that said nothing has changed in my commitment to continue the process of growing the Titans franchise into the leading team in the country. As far as the current season goes, our 4-day victory against the Warriors was the 4th first-class victory out of our last six matches played so we are certainly moving in the right direction in that format and with a successful weekend in the Momentum Cup we are now very much back in the hunt for a play-off spot, hopefully we can take that form into the Ram Slam competition!”
