Real Madrid’s juggernaut rolled on after a comfortable 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in the Uefa Champions League. The Reds were forced on the back foot after just three minutes when James Rodriguez brought out a good Simon Mignolet save, diving to his left. Six minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo might have opened the scoring but his attempt was pushed over the crossbar.
The opening goal finally arrived in the 27th minute courtesy of Karim Benzema. A break down the left saw a Marcelo cross find the Frenchman, who easily lost Kolo Toure to bury the ball at the far corner. Ronaldo bombed a 35-yard rocket from a free kick position in the 35th minute as Los Blancos continued to press however for all their possession and territory dominance it was still just 1-0 at the break.
The visitors continued to put up resistance but the hosts were unlucky not to extend their advantage. On 70 minutes Gareth Bale hit the crossbar as Carlo Ancelotti’s men pressed to put the game to bed. It would not matter as the away side failed to penetrate in what would finish 1-0 to the Madridistas.
