Real Madrid thrashed Wolfsburg 3-0 in their Uefa Champions League quarter-final second leg clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening. The result sees Real come from behind to go through 3-2 on aggregate after they lost the first leg 2-0 a week ago. The home side knew they needed goals and came close on six minutes when a Sergio Ramos header hit the top of the cross bar after a corner.
Zinedine Zidane’s men opened the scoring on 15 minutes when a deflected cross from Daniel Carvajal found Cristiano Ronaldo at the back post and he made no mistake in tapping home. It then took just two minutes for Los Blancos to double their lead on the night and draw level on aggregate. It was Ronaldo with the goal again as Toni Kroos’ corner found his front post run and Ronaldo guided his header into the bottom corner.
The Germans then had chances of their own but could not find the back of the net with the score 2-0 going into half-time. The Spanish team started the second half well and thought they scored when Ramos’ header hit the inside of the post but before it could go in Diego Benaglio grabbed a hold of the ball. The third and decisive goal came on 77 minutes when a free kick was awarded.
Ronaldo stepped up and fired his effort through the wall and into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick as well as the comeback making the aggregate score 3-2. Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals after an historic comeback inspired by their star man Cristiano Ronaldo.
