Anjinkya Rahane and Shane Watson facilitated an 8 wicket win against Chennai Super Kings at Sardar Patel Stadium on Sunday in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat first before Watson (73) and Rahane (76 not out) put on an unbeatable partnership of 144. Batting first, Chennai came to a total of 156/4 (20 overs) with six extras. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men had 15 runs on the board before the first wicket fell.
Brendon McCullun (12) was taken by Prevan Tambe. Suresh Raina was the second wicket to fall after only four runs, taken by Chris Morris. With 39 runs on the board, Ankit Sharma took the third wicket, that of Faf Du Plessis (1). Dwayne Smith (40) became Chennai’s fourth and last wicket taken by James Faulkner.
After Smith had fallen at the hands of Faulkner, Dhoni (31 not out) and Dwayne Bravo (61 not out) put on a partnership of 93 runs until the last over. The Royals were very diligent in taking the first four wickets which assisted in the beatable target. Faulkner (1/26), Tambe (1/36), Morris (1/19) and Sharma (1/26) each took one wicket.
A partnership of 144 between Watson and Rahane helped Royals win and maintain their unbeatable run. The first wicket to fall was Watson (73) taken by Ravindra Jadeja (1-29). Bravo took Steve Smith (8). But Rahane (76 not out) abd Karun Nair (1 not out) met the target of 157 with eight wickets to spare.
