Royal Challengers Bangalore’s clash with the Delhi Daredevils was abandoned due to rain today at the hosts stadium in Bengaluru. The Bangalore side was looking to secure a spot in the play-offs and Delhi was playing for pride after a disappointing campaign. With rain expected later in the day, the Daredevils were put in to bat after losing the toss on a pitch that seemed slower than expected.
Bangalore’s bowling duo of Mitchell Starc and Ashok Dinda swung the ball in the first couple of overs. Bizarrely skipper Virat Kholi took Starc off after a single over and this allowed a Shreyas Iyer (20) and Quinton De Kock (69) a fifty-run stand inside the power play overs. Iyer was caught cutting a wide ball off Harshal Patel to Chris Gayle after 6.2 overs. After a cautious start De Kock knocked off a 30-ball fifty but fell to a Yuzvendra Chahal googly for 69 in the 12th over.
A double strike saw Yuvraj Singh and Kendar Jadhav off the square within three deliveries of each other in the 15th over. Angelo Mathews (1) was well run out by Chahal six balls later with the score on 141/5. It seemed a Daredevils implosion was on the cards. Delhi skipper JP Duminy (67*) wrestled back the initiative with an impressive knock to guide his team to 187/5.
After some scattered showers, the match resumed but it lasted just seven deliveries before the players retreated to the change rooms.
