Queens Park Rangers defeated Aston Villa 2-0 in an English Premier League clash at Loftus Road on Monday night. The game started at a slow pace with both teams pressing cautiously for an opener. Carlos Sanchez won a tackle early on but conceded a corner in the process.
Charlie Austin opened the scoring with a great finish from the edge of the box on 17 minutes to hand the Hoops the lead. Harry Redknapp’s side remained solid and held the lead that was enough to separate the sides at the half-time break. Keiran Clarke almost leveled matters for Villa in the 54th minute but his effort was wide.
Austin scored his second goal of the night and put QPR in the ascendancy on 69 minutes. Paul Lambert’s lot would never catch up from that point. Aly Cissokho searched for a goal with a first time volleys but his effort went over the bar to epitomise the Villans’ problems. The Birmingham club are without a Premier League goal in more than 500 minutes of league football now.
The R’s remain in the relegation zone but after this win, have moved off the bottom to 19th position.
