PSG See Off Ajax Amsterdam

Paris Saint-Germain’s dynamic duo Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic starred at the Parc Des Princes as PSG defeated Ajax Amsterdam 3-1 in a Uefa Champions league encounter on Tuesday.  Les Parisiens extended their unbeaten run of 21 games with their win over Ajax.  The Ligue 1 reigning champions were promising from the beginning of the game with Javier Pastore launching a counterattack that saw Cavani’s effort blocked away by Mike Van Der Hoorn.

The Dutchmen were forced to withdraw Nicolai Boilesen just 10 minutes into the game after suffering a knee injury as the Frenchmen continued to dominate the early stages of the game.  Ezequiel Lavezzi had the best chance in the first 30 minutes after he was teed up by Ibrahimovic but the attacking midfielder hit the ball straight to the hands of Jasper Cillessen.  The Argentine made no mistake nine minutes later when he received a similar pass from Ibrahimovic and he passed to Cavani who slotted home into an open net and made it 1-0.

The visitors came out all guns blazing in the second half but the home side’s defending proved too strong.  Frank De Boer’s men started taking the game to the hosts and were rewarded midway through the second period when Davy Klaassen’s bullet diving header found the back of the net in the bottom corner.  The equaliser seemed to awaken the French champions.

Ibrahimovic chested Pastore’s pass and unleashed a volley into the corner.  It was not long before the hosts extended their lead when Niki Zimling allowed Cavani to round Cillessen and slot from close range the easiest goal of the night and wrap up a 3-1 win for Laurent Blanc’s boys.
