Polokwane On Track To Retain Absa Premiership Status

Polokwane City beat Milano United 2-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Play-offs on Sunday.  Second half goals courtesy of Sphesihle Nzimande and Thabo Rakhele handed the Limpopo-based side a much needed victory.  This means that United’s hope of securing a spot in the Absa Premiership next season has come to an end.

While City are now top of the mini league with seven points; four ahead of second-placed Black Leopards.  The game was fairly balanced with both teams showing a sluggish performance and attitude until the half hour mark.  Vukile Mngqibisa’s chance of scoring from a corner kick was cleared by Taairiq Fielies.

Minutes after that the Kinnes replied with a good chance to score however Moegamet Jacob’s header from a deep cross went narrowly wide.  In the second stanza Polokwane were a redeemed team with improved strings of passes going forward.  In the 68th minute their quest for a goal was a success when Nzimande volleyed from Rakhele’s cross to put City upfront.

Ten minutes later Rakhele was called to action and extended the lead with a wonderful finish 16 yards from goal and City stole the victory.  Rise And Shine will face Lidoda Duvha in the next fixture needing just a point to retain their Absa Premiership status for next season.
