Polokwane City edged the University of Pretoria 1-0 at the Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an entertaining first match of the 2014/15 Absa Premiership campaign. The two teams started the match slowly looking to build from the back. City looked more vicious on counter attacks and came close to making them count in the 13th minute but failed to convert.
Thabo Mnyamane almost put AmaTuks in front in the 27th minute when he opened room for a shot but sent it straight at the keeper. Final touches proved costly for both sides as they were still battling to shake off the holiday spirit. Puleng Tlolane feasted on great team play to put Rise and Shine in front in the 31st minute.
There would be no comeback for the home side as they trailed 1-0 at the break. There was a sense of urgency from both sides soon after the restart as Tuks looked to find an equaliser. Thabo Mosadi sent his effort wide in the 51st minute as the match started to become flexible.
The home side tried to push forward looking to level matters but all their attempts came to nothing as the resolute City defence swept everything coming its way. Rise and Shine held on to secure three points in a match that could have gone either way.
